Carnivore Has Problems

from the this-is-a-surprise? dept

When the FBI was originally pushing Carnivore (in the days when it was okay to suggest something like it was “bad”) the people who didn’t like the idea were afraid it would give the FBI too much power to read the emails of people they had no right to. Now, EPIC has gotten some data, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, and (as predicted) the FBI has had access to email they shouldn’t have been looking at. Of course, this was “accidental”. There isn’t any evidence that the FBI was randomly snooping on whoever they felt like – but it’s still a reminder that Carnivore is far from perfect.
