Taking Your Work On Vacation With You
from the all-work-all-the-time dept
It seems I’m not the only one who’s idea of a vacation lately has been to tack on a few extra days at the beginning or end of a business trip. Thanks to the fact that you can now fit your office in a laptop and mobile phone, more and more people are bringing their jobs with them on vacation. While some people think this is a horrible idea (the article tells a story of a manager who forbids his employees from bringing work with them on vacation), many workers think that spending a little time each day checking in and making sure things are okay beats having to deal with 4,000 emails and various crises on returning. Apparently, the vacation market is changing due to this as well. People are taking shorter “weekend” vacations, and are staying fairly close to home. However, some places are going in the complete opposite direction – with resorts that advertise the fact that you will be completely disconnected during your vacation. The overall summary, though, is that it becomes a personal issue that each person has to work out the proper balance for themselves.
