Even The Japanese Aren't Into 3G

from the 2G-is-good-enough dept

i-Mode was all the rage in the mobile phone industry due to its explosive growth and innovative business model. But even mighty DoCoMo is having a hard time getting customers to upgrade (New York Times article, free registration required) to their new 3G network. The problem is that i-Mode works great as is. Users don’t see the value in the expensive 3G handsets and don’t have a need for wireless video conferencing. Overall this might be a Japan only issue since few markets have services that work as well as i-Mode.
