.Net Promo Site Reveals Info

from the security?--who-needs-it? dept

With all this talk about “trustworthy computing” and how .Net is going to run all of our lives and keep track of all of our private information you would think (wouldn’t you?) that Microsoft would be extra careful to make sure anything touching it would be at least marginally secure. Wrong. They apparently hired some marketing company, MHI, to send out demo DVDs of VisualStudio.Net for anyone who registered on the site. It seems that MHI didn’t do much to protect the info of those who registered and displayed all the info online. When informed about this, they simply turned off the promotion, but left the page up! Admittedly, they changed the path, but did absolutely nothing to protect it. I guess we’re back to security by obscurity.
