Is The US Catching Up To Europe In Wireless?

from the maybe-so dept

A good article in the Economist asking if the US is catching up to Europe in the wireless world. It gives a good background on how the various mobile phone technologies were chosen in both areas (top down in Europe, let the market decide in the US) and what that might mean for wireless data services. Basically, while Europe has been congratulating themselves for years on using GSM and offering much more than the US could with their multiple standards, the single 3G standard (UMTS) has slowed things down in Europe – while the US has been pushing forward.
