Ed Felten Interview
from the copy-protection-is-no-good dept
Business Week has an interview with Ed Felten where he says pretty much what you’d expect him to say (which is a good thing). He points out that copy protection never really works very well, and only causes problems with consumers. He suggests the real way for the music industry to move forward is to come up with new business models – and not try to use technology solutions to prevent copying. He also complains about the legalistic route (gee, what a surprise) and says that it’s a pain to always have to wonder if he should call his lawyer before doing some research or presenting a paper. It really is too bad that he never did get brought to court by the RIAA. He would have made some very good arguments against them.
