Felten Lawsuit Dismissed

from the oh-well dept

I guess it really was wishful thinking. Following the whole mess where the RIAA threatened to bring a lawsuit against Professor Ed Felten for publishing his research on how to crack the SDMI copy protection scheme, the EFF filed a preemptive lawsuit on Felten’s behalf. It was at that point that the RIAA backed down and said they never would have actually sued – they just liked threatening to sue. So, that “preemptive” lawsuit suddenly had a lot less teeth. In fact, it had so few teeth that the judge has dismissed it entirely. Oh well. I guess we’ll just have to wait until the RIAA really does something silly, and then let the lawsuits take care of that mess.
