Dollar Rent-A-Car Requiring Thumb Print

from the ugh dept

It seems that Dollar Rent-A-Car is now piloting a program where they require you to give them a thumbprint before they let you take a car out. They say they’re doing this to cut back on fraud and car theft. However, it’s leaving many privacy advocates cold. It certainly opens up the door to other questionable practices. As the article says, how long will it be before we need to leave a sample of DNA before we get a hotel room? The potential to collect and misuse this sort of info by a private company is scary.
