SMS Evolution

from the i-know-you-are-there dept

SMS services should get more interesting today after OpenWave announced its first customer for its wireless IM application. The software lets operators offer access to exisitng IM services such as MSN, AIM, etc. But even more interestingly, it can support presence information for SMS users. This means you would be able to tell if someone has their mobile phone turned on before you send them a message or call them. This should make for some interesting social issues. I wonder if this feature will make people expect replies sooner and how they will feel if they don’t get immediate replies.
