Making Play Pay

from the ah,-the-challenge dept

The gaming industry has always been a tough one to make money in. Now, that more and more web-based games are appearing, people are trying to figure out how to make money off of them. The general consensus is that it helps to make the game for cheap, using minimal resources, if possible. A lot of games involve a free, intro version, and hope that people will pay for the higher, more complete levels. Then, there’s the idea of “advergaming”, which takes product placement to a new level. Either way, my guess is that it’ll take some time and then some small game that no one thought anything about will catch on like wildfire – and everyone else will try to imitate it.
