Street Gangs Looking For Web Turf War

from the gangbangers-do-got-talents dept

Apparently fighting over street corners isn’t enough. Now, the LA Times has a huge expose on street gangs moving on to the web and fighting a war of words. There are some good quotes from the “gangster” web masters, such as: “Gangbangers do got talents”. They also point out that many of these gangster sites are on free web hosting companies that display ads. So, ads from big companies like Microsoft and Dell are showing up on these gang sites (probably not the “targeted marketing” they were expecting). Of course, I wonder how many of the “gangbangers” quoted are really in gangs. It wouldn’t be hard for some suburban kid to put up a gangster site, and pretend he or she was in a gang and answer some questions for a gullible reporter.
