Upgrading The Internet
from the shut-'er-down-for-a-day dept
A pretty good article discussing the basic issues behind IPv6. If you don’t know, this is the next internet protocol that everyone is supposed to be installing so that we don’t soon run out of IP addresses (and also to add some nice other features like prioritization). However, as the article points out, you can’t just shut down the internet for a day to do the upgrade. Of course, this doesn’t seem like that big of a deal. As things move forward, and people replace equipment, slowly but surely more people will have equipment that supports IPv6 and everything will be fine. Or am I just being too optimistic?
