Dot Orgs Doing Okay
from the things-are-getting-easier dept
The dot com bust may be helping out the dot orgs. While it has been tougher for non-profits to raise money from companies with tons of venture capital wanting to show their “do-gooder” side, the talent pool for non-profits has grown tremendously. Plus, suddenly these dot orgs can afford office space again. One non-profit person, though, is afraid that the dot com downturn will have destroyed some of the youthful idealism and belief that it’s possible to “change the world” among the dot com crowd. Thus, they may turn into evil cynical capitalists who work 9-to-5 for their paycheck and ignore non-profits. Seems a bit extreme.

Peace Corps applications are up 50% in SF, and apparently a lot are from “laid-off” dot-com’ers… Or should I say Dot-COMMIES?
