GE Reinvents Itself As A Dot Com – Again

from the and-for-our-next-new-strategy... dept

GE made big news a few years back by announcing that they were going to become the worlds biggest dot com, and everything they did was going to have an internet component to it. They were completely focused on bringing in a large percentage of their sales through the internet. That didn’t pan out exactly the way they expected, so now (while they’re still happy with those efforts) they’re focusing their new efforts on using the web to cut costs internally. This brings up an interesting point. A lot of people thought the internet would be useful for driving new business – but now it seems more likely that it’s mostly useful for making current business operations more efficient. This is a lot less sexy, but could be a lot more profitable in the long run.
