With the dot com hype the past few years and the recent negative hype, a lot of people have been missing the subtle changes that have been occurring around us. Companies have actually been using Internet technologies to transform a lot of their business processes and increase efficiency. There is no such thing as the paperless office yet but relatively speaking the adoption of electronic media has far outweighed that of paper. The new economy has been transforming businesses, we just tend to forget how old technology usage takes relatively longer to cease (in the classic adoption curve).
