AltaVista Wants To Sue Everyone

from the this-should-be-fun dept

There was some talk about this yesterday in a few places, but here’s the Register’s take on AltaVista’s plan to sue everyone for patent infringement. Apparently, as they get more desperate, they’re realizing they have patents on “indexing” and “spidering” the internet, and they’re going to enforce them. Basically, this means that every search engine is going to have to pay AltaVista. Aren’t patents great? Update: Apparently to get ready for the fun of lawsuits and ignore their everday operations, AltaVista is laying off 25% of their workforce.
