Upside Funds PacBell/SBC "Trial" With PacBell/SBC Ads

from the targeted-advertising dept

bfrank writes “Don’t know if you’ll ever be able to see it again, but on the same web page where Upside was touting their “Trial of Pac Bell / SBC” for their ineptitude, there was a SBC banner right next to the link to the article.” bfrank was kind enough to send some pictures too. Being the skeptical journalist I am (yeah, right) I actually went to the site itself and it only took 3 reloads to get some even better shots. Now that’s what I call targeted ad placement. While it may mean that SBC/PacBell won’t be buying too many more Upside ads, it also suggests that the editorial and ad sales department are fairly well separated within Upside.

Re: Good Journalism

Oh, I agree. The ad sales and editorial departments should have nothing to do with each other. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it’s somewhat amusing to see. Of course, there’s also the possibility that Upside outsources its ad sales to someone like DoubleClick, which would put them even further apart. Anyone know if Upside does it all in house or if they outsource?
