Artificial Stupidity
from the manifestos dept
If you didn’t happen to see Jaron Lanier’s “Half a Manifesto” last week (meaning you were hiding in a hole somewhere judging by the number of times I was sent links to it), Salon has a nice little (significantly shorter than the actual half-manifesto) discussion about it. Definitely worth reading. The basic point is discussing Lanier’s gradual change in opinion on the ability to make successful artificial intelligence, and what that means for the rest of us. I’m not sure it will change anything, but it’s certainly worth reading.
