Hollywood Looks Dot Com

from the it's-about-time dept

I’d been wondering why there haven’t been any movies or TV shows that focus on the dot com craze, and apparently, I wasn’t the only one. Salon takes a look at some of the projects that are being worked on in Hollywood. The problem, it seems, is coming up with a good story. Since the actual work at a dot com is fairly mundane, the setting is pretty boring, so there has to be a really good story associated with it. I definitely think there are some good stories that can come out of the internet world, but it’s not clear how many of them can be made into movies. On the cool side, they do mention that Po Bronson’s novel, The First $20 Million is the Always the Hardest is being made into a movie by John Favreau of Swingers fame. Though, on the negative side are plans to make a “Real World” style TV show following around people at a dot com. I don’t think that’s a very good idea.
