MP3.com is out

from the 10,000-bands-you-have-never-heard-of dept

MP3.com went out today and for a short while Michael Robertson, the site’s founder, was worth about $2.5 billion. Everyone is curious to see where MP3.com is going. I think MP3.com has done a great job of pushing MP3 and raising awarenss of digital music. But that’s about all they have done. I’m not sure how their business model will pan out. They are the virtual label for all the unsigned bands out there. Great, but how are they going to make money distributing the music of the 10,000 bands you have never heard of?
