BMG/Universal Music Site
from the yet-another-place-to-buy-overpriced-cds dept
BMG and Universal announced plans to launch a new music site later this year called GetMusic. The site will tie together music related communites and ecommerce. No mention was made of plans for downloadable music.
Music portals seem to be all the rage. There a number under development that are focusing on downloable music. Let’s hope the traditional firms jump on the downloadble bandwagon soon. The last thing we need is another place to buy CDs.

Anyone else notice the logo?
Did anyone else notice the similarity between the GetMusic logo and the amazon.com logo, from the variable-weight sans-serif font to the orange/yellow catenary (only GetMusic has it above the text)? Looks like an attempt to exploit Amazon brand-recognition memes, whilst maintaining sufficient distance to not be sued. Wonder whether it’ll work.
Re: Anyone else notice the logo?
That’s very interesting. I doubt I ever would have consciously noticed that, but now that I look it’s completely true. For a second, I’ll believe that it’s an innocent (possibly subconscious) move on the part of GetMusic, but that’s probably not true.
