Press Release Scamming

from the sneaky-bastards dept

Article in USA Today summarizes the practice of name dropping in press releases. Basically a company lists unrelated, but very well known, companies in their own press release, implying an association and guaranteeing that the press release will be picked up by anyone who tracks news on that particular company. It’s a fairly disgusting practice that has been used widely. In some sense, I think investors who buy based on info like that almost deserve what they get.
