AOL Ditches Netscape Communities

from the hatchet-job dept

AOL has decided that Netscape’s communities just aren’t very valuable apparently, and have ditched them, leaving many users pissed off. A few thoughts on this: (1) Netscape did a pretty bad job supporting these. Basically, all they did was hype them, and expect them to take off, without actually seeing how real online communities work and (2) this seems like a rathere obnoxious move on the part of AOL in trying to simply cut off things they don’t think anyone uses from their own viewpoint. This is bound to piss off people if more things like that happen.
