No worries, I can't see any possible conflict of interest from soldiers knowing that their paychecks depend entirely upon keeping the obscenely wealthy happy with them.

No for several reasons, the greed of the execs themselves mean that long-term stability will almost always be sacrificed on the altar of making more money now, and the market/stockholder's demands that a company must always be more profitable this quarter than it was last quarter also pressures companies to prioritize short-term gains over that long-term stability because the steps taken for long-term stability are likely to reduce profits.

    Screwed by theatrics yet again

The idea that a single person can effectively veto an entire state's worth of voters by simply refusing to seat the person they elected is both wildly undemocratic and serves as an excellent example of why showy song and dances should be limited to the theater, not politics. 'Can anyone in congress, speaker of the house or otherwise veto an entire state's election?' should have never been in question, and certainly not to the point that it requires not just one but two lawsuits now to adjudicate.

    Seems pretty clear to me

And, for stupidly unclear reasons, Congress just keeps letting him do whatever the fuck he wants to do. There's nothing 'unclear' about it, and framing it as such is really giving them way too much credit. They're going along with Trump's dictatorial actions either because they support him and what he's doing or because they're too cowardly to push back and are prioritizing their personal cushy jobs as politicians over serving the country and/or the states that elected them.

Because most of the 'press'(stenographers really) have been quite effectively neutered and know damn well who holds their leash, and they don't have the spine to contest that.

They made this bed, now they get to lay in it

The funny thing is that she's not entirely wrong, the news does have a bias... and it's biased towards conservatives and has been for years, bending over backwards to pretend that they have equally valid points and arguments and that when they say demonstrably wrong things it's reality that is wrong. The 'news' in the US has spent years trying to appease the 'reality is the enemy' crowd in an attempt to get them to stop claiming that the news is 'biased', and now they're being told that they weren't going far enough. It's not enough any more to frame things as 'He's what democrats said, here's what republicans said, both are equally valid and factual', now the only acceptable framing is 'Here's what the MAGAts have said and that means it's the truth'.

  • Biden Admin Blessed UN Surveillance Treaty, Trump Admin Gets To Abuse It

    That One Guy ( profile ), 29 Oct, 2025 @ 12:28pm

When the core idea is so terrible the only fix is 'Don't do in in the first place.'

'Yes it's bad but we're signing on because we plan to fix it from within' is like agreeing to a 'A camera in every bedroom(for crime prevention, pinky-promise)' plan because clearly you can't object to when the cameras are turned on unless you supported the plan. Even without a tantrum-throwing dictator waiting in the wings to take his seat Biden would have still screwed the entire country by supporting this plan, with that taken into account it's downright apocalypticly stupid and dangerous.

A company might be able to dodge it for a while, but eventually all will succumb

On top of that it's also ultimately self-destructive, as by focusing on money above all else you ensure that no business will survive long term since eventually every business under that model will hit the death spiral of having to squeeze more money from an already saturated market, which involves cutting costs and making the product/service worth less, leading to customers leaving and taking their money with them, leading to the need to raise prices and/or cheapen the product/service more to make up for the difference, leading to more customers leaving...

Ah yes, because clearly you want your players to be as un-relaxed as possible before they go out to play, and you certainly don't want them to engage in any friendly competition to build team cohesion...

$100 is the price to buy a US soldier these days, right?

Always try to keep up on paying your mercenaries, especially if you are currently using them to go after your enemies and plan on doing so more in the future, otherwise they might start to question just how loyal they should be towards the person who's happy to use them as thugs but not willing to pay them to do so. That said I can't help but laugh at the (probably) unintentional backhand toward the US military here, the idea that $100 a pop would be enough to cover even just food is so fitting coming from someone who's likely not had to pay any of his own bills for years and therefore almost certainly has no idea what anything costs for the average person.

    Cowardly complicity

If you walk into someone's house only to find one spouse physically and/or verbally assaulting the other as you watch declaring that it's not your business and you're not getting involved isn't taking the position of neutrality, it's siding with the abuser. It's possible to be neutral on some matters of opinion, like favorite flavor of ice-cream or whether a particular show is better than another, but when it reaches the realm of 'This group of people are subhuman and don't deserve equal or even basic rights' there is no neutral stance to take, you either side with the abuser, or you side with their intended victim.

  • Trump Says We’re Just Going To Straight Up Murder A Bunch Of People

    That One Guy ( profile ), 28 Oct, 2025 @ 12:44am

They know who holds their leash, and they wear it willingly

The real kicker is that all it would take is him simply telling his MAGAt servants in congress 'Declare war so I have some legal cover to continue with the murders' and both he and they know that they would do it in a heartbeat, he is just showing yet again how fitting the No Kings mass protests were and are by behaving like a king that answers to no-one.

Outsmarting Trump is as difficult to manage as beating an actual corpse in a foot-race, you have to really put in the effort to not be able to do it.

  • Cards Against Humanity, SpaceX Settle Lawsuit Over Misused Border Land Parcel

    That One Guy ( profile ), 25 Oct, 2025 @ 11:18am

Guilt or innocence should be based upon facts, not bank account

The game company said a victory at trial wouldn’t have resulted in a better outcome. “A trial would have cost more than what we were likely to win from SpaceX,” the company’s statement to Ars said. “Under Texas law, even if we had won at trial (and we would have, given their admission to trespassing), we likely wouldn’t have been able to recoup our legal fees. And SpaceX certainly seemed ready to dramatically outspend us on lawyers.” Example 894,384,556 of why the US legal system is broken as hell(or working great depending on your POV) and in need of serious reform if not being rebuilt from the ground up. 'Even if we win, and we would, we'd still come out worse than if we didn't take the matter to court to begin with' is not the sign of a healthy legal system or one that isn't pay-to-win.

That's got to be the most pathetic part of this, it would be one thing if it was just some stooge from the regime making that lie but for someone from the Reagan Foundation to lie about what he said shows such an incredible amount of contempt towards the person and legacy of the person who the foundation is built upon, and it just becomes even more pathetic when you consider it takes literal minutes to see that they were lying.

No, that would be YOUR people doing that

“I want to speak directly to the American people today and remind them and recall the facts that we are focused on the worst of the worst, bringing these individuals to justice. We’re not going to let individuals terorize our streets anymore and we’re not going to let them make victims out of families that live in this country,” Noem said. Ah yes, curse all those dastardly immigrants, why I heard recently they held an entire apartment building hostage, ziptying literal children and mocking their cries as they ransacked the building looking for victims to kidnap and sell to foreign countries. Oh wait... The only people I see terrorizing the streets and making victims out of the families that live in the US are the US gestapo she's currently defending, so chalk up another whopper of 'Every accusation a confession, every self-given label a rejection of'.

Queue another generation or two with a LOT of dead and/or maimed kids...

Why in the hell do we have to wait for those horrors to resurface before we put this diseased genie back in the bottle? Ego and willful ignorance, where there's been enough time since measles was killing people directly and indirectly on the regular that people forgot just how horrific it was, on top of people who've been conditioned that 'the experts' don't know anything and what you should really be listening to is some crank with a podcast or book because those with actual education and expertise say they're wrong and that must mean they're on to something.
