  No, I believe Israel has the right to fight against Hamas. Unfortunately for your argument, I also believe that the Israeli government cares less about destroying Hamas and more about ethnically cleansing Gaza. The basis for my belief is the actions of the Israeli government in re: Gaza over the past two years, including its meticulous campaign to starve thousands of Palestinians.

  Israel isn’t going to be in the business of separating sheep from goats at a cost to their own lives.

  And if hundreds of children⁠—including babies⁠—have to suffer at the hands of the Israeli military and the government that controls it, I guess that is, to you, an “acceptable loss”. Can you justify the deaths of Palestinian children without sounding like a Nazi? Because from where I sit…

  From where I sit, someone posting the same word (and only that word!) over and over and over on the same writer’s articles for days on end because said someone wants said writer to use that particular phrasing in reference to a particular entity⁠—wants it to the point where it seems like a personal crusade against that writer specifically⁠—looks like a demand. But hey, maybe that’s just me.

Hell, I have used “regime” in reference to the Trump administration before. Everyone here knows “regime” is acceptable language when talking about Trump. But you don’t “correct” them. You didn’t “correct” me for calling the Trump administration exactly that in my prior comment, even after I dared you to try. You only ever “correct” Tim Cushing on his articles by saying one word, a style of comment that carries with it an implicit demand that he write the way you want him to write. That, by the by, is why I refer to your little crusade of “correctness” as a personal vendetta against him.

  I am doing this even-handedly and would happily leave a single comment per article that misapplies the language and move on.

  The government and most of the mainstream media within the United States has been avoiding, and will always avoid, addressing the issue of Israel killing innocent people en masse (including through mass starvation). Nobody in the government wants to lose Israel as an ally. Nobody in the media wants to be labeled an antisemite for daring to criticize the Israeli government. So yes, The Powers That Be in the U.S. are doing their best to distract the populace while Israel kills innocent Palestinians. Your analogy is apt, even if you didn’t mean it to be.

  War is not a game. War is not a fictional tale where a ragtag group of rebels wins the battle.

  War is the process of a select few sending a great many to die for a cause that neither the many nor the few may actually believe in. And like many acts of violence, war tends to cause more problems than it solves. Of course, the Israel/Hamas conflict is less of a war and more of a one-sided ass-whooping with thousands of innocent people caught in (and killed by) the crossfire, but the general idea remains the same.

  And I know what you’re going to aim for next, so let me get it out of the way: I neither condone nor endorse the act of terror Hamas committed on the 7th of October 2023. What they did should be condemned by any decent person, regardless of one’s feelings on the Israel/Gaza situation. And yes, Israel was right to respond to that attack with violence against Hamas. That said, Israel’s still-ongoing response to that attack has long since stopped being about Hamas in particular. The Israeli government has been using weapons, funding, and credibility provided largely by the United States to commit a genocide against Gazan Palestinians. You can make the “Hamas is using them as human shields” claim, but when Israel is allowing thousands of people to die via starvation after spending nearly two years bombing Gaza halfway to Hell, that claim rings hollow.

  City-owned supermarkets are little different than privately owned co-ops and the minimum wage must be raised to account for the higher cost of living, both in general and within New York City in particular. (Related suggestion: Sit down for a few minutes and pick apart the phrase “cost of living”.) I don’t see how his proposals are “radical” or whatever unless you’re a wealthy person who might lose a tiny fraction of said wealth to some slightly higher taxes that you already avoid paying.
