  • Would Elon Pull ExTwitter Out Of The EU To Avoid The DSA Overreach?

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 25 Oct, 2023 @ 03:23pm

    Unlikely?

Appears to me to be exactly what he will do. Then again, looks to me like X is going to be another AOL or Yahoo. New owner takes over, is in over their head, makes bad decisions, and devalue the platform. Sells it off as a tax write off. Next company does worse. And then worse. Twitter is already a dead and historical brand. Even if you don’t like that fact. X is going to crash and burn. Honestly, nobody is any worse for the loss.

  • Starbucks Joins The List Of Companies Using Trademark Law To Bully Its Own Union

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 25 Oct, 2023 @ 03:11pm

    You just don’t get it.

Very rare is there trademark conflict between companies and (anti-)labour unions. Pipe fitters don’t call them selves workers of shamrock plumbing union. Food store employees don’t call themselves Albertson’s employees union. Hundreds of thousands of these groups exist. The only ones who make news like this are ones who are intentionally hostile to the company they are attached to. Given that these unions are bullying potential workers as much as the company they stand against, with forced membership and removal of right to chosen representation… I have no tears for them.

Not everyone liked The Notebook. And the Expendables franchise is more than recovering its production costs. It may only have 38m in the box office but has already passed 40m in 2 weeks as a digital release.. $20m in rentals alone. You may not enjoy the throwback action films but the market is there. Looks to be doing quite well. Even if the studio can’t figure out the target audience has no interest in going to the theatre. Oh, and the point. I’ve said that many times, here. I don’t attack, I strike back. Make sure I’m dead. Etc. I’m a rather peaceful person. But I won’t cower.

I’d be happy to entertain a list of those with no criminal action who were arrested. Feel free to post links.

It’s a fairly standard philosophy, from Buddhist to Tao to satanism. Be kind to those who are kind. Strike those who strike you.

Excessive is subjective. About half the body mounted footage I’ve seen shows situations that could have been handled differently, absolutely. But excessive, extremely rare. Now , maybe you and I have a different idea of how to deal with a person shooting at you, or running at you with a battle axe. I definitely don’t see the need for 6 cops to dump 3 20+ round clips into a suspect holding a knife. Qualified immunity is abused. Most people, pro or against laws and law enforcement, agree on that. It eroded discipline. But l find actual cases of excess to be rather rare. As for false pretension, well, as long as there is a legal reason for the stop, there is a reason for the stop. If that criminal act that gets you pulled over leads to discovery of other crimes, that’s on the criminal.i fully support the idea of compounding investigation. Follow the law and you don’t have a reason for concern.

Let’s return to my original comment reply. You made an assumption that simply wasn’t stated, that I was dismissing the issue based on an unknown artist. Feel free to scan through the list and see how many you don’t recognise. Be honest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_certification I somewhat dismissed the artist, not the issue. The issue has been there for most of the existence of “label” services. Here’s the thing for me, this issue has hurt the ‘lesser’ genres for ages. The vast vast majority of some styles remains outside the commercial labels. Punk, and the less radio-friendly styles of metal? I won’t spend the months and expense to buy the data but I’d guess around half of Apple’s artists in those genres are outside the label system. Apple and Spotify both have YouTube stars make top 20 lists with no label backing. Groups like Ten Masked Men clearly have the listen rates to make RIAA charts if they chose to sign away their freedom. Luckily they have enough success to buy rights to the music they cover. And they started as a joke. A bet. They still get flagged on YouTube and dailymotion despite paying the proper way. This is a 50+ year old battle for those who make their own music. So I’m quite glad a name artist finally made the news. If one artist you know has to suffer for the world to finally understand what the big labels do as daily practice to the independent scene, so be it. Acoustic fingerprints are a failed idea. Far worse than face recognition tech that this site likes to complain about. The failure rate is close to the upper end of the spectrum. Between the very fact that there is a finite number of sounds producible by any single instrument, and the companies controlling the tech allow white noise and static to be registered? How many people get misidentified by facial tech each year. Compare that to the number of false takedowns for audio fingerprints in a month. The later is a far bigger occurrence.

  • McCormick & Company Gets Spicy Over Weed Brand’s Parody Packaging

    Not so cut and dry

This one can be problematic. 420 degrees is also a cooking temp for boiling dry fish. The colouring is more than parody, it’s at glance identical. Weed is illegal. Nationally. This one is definitely more in favour of the primary company.

The bad thing here is the police officers joking about a k9 officer attack. Nobody is going to defend that. The rest appears completely reasonable. He stopped to investigate a lone person in a car in a parking lot outside of standard use hours. Potentially offering to help a stranded motorist, or otherwise detain for criminal activity. The motorist turned out to be a wanted felon. Who then fled capture. Leaving behind an open and accessible vehicle. Searching the abandoned vehicle of a fleeing felon is standard procedure. The stupidity here is depending on the tow inventory. Flight from arrest is probable cause alone. Even if the wrong processes or laws are applied initially, inevitable discovery should still cover this.

  • A Gentle Reminder That Censoring Books Is Never A ‘Reasonable’ Solution

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 17 Oct, 2023 @ 01:59pm

No mater how localised or limited, intentional removal of content is censorship. Be it legal censorship (X, FB, etc) or questionable (as here in a school library), or illegal (the government demanding removal of “misinformation”) Sony censors games. Just because I can get that title on Switch or Xbox uncensored doesn’t change the fact that it was censored by Sony Blockbuster used to rent censored movies. Just because I could go down the street to XYZ video (yes a real shoppe) doesn’t make the blockbuster edits any less censorship.

  • Officer’s Body Cam Recording Helps Get Him Stripped Of Immunity By Appeals Court

    Id on person is the norm. This state is an apparent exception. Like I said, if it’s not the law there, the police are wrong. Also as I said, none of this would have happened if he simply showed his Id. I haven’t seen the footage yet and won’t comment on anything else about the encounter. But as far as I can tell from the write up here, showing identification could have ended the situation before it started. My point being;

    of your victim-blaming.
Sometimes people make themselves the victim.

  • Media Sites That Have Left Twitter Aren’t Missing The Traffic

    Perception vs reality

Looks like musk drastically overestimated how many non-democrats had any interest in the D-party-projection. Not surprising. Either way. Most people realise that NOR is the voice of the Democrat party. And Most people realise that 99.9% of NPR views/listens/interaction is from that party’s members. That, and musk generally doesn’t understand media interaction in the first place. The only thing left of NPR is WLS.

    ???

I don’t understand why people refuse to identify themselves. You have a car, you are required to have a drivers ‘s license to operate it. How difficult would it be to simply show it. In the first place. The officers may be wrong here (if and only if this locale is the rarity that doesn’t require presenting ID to law enforcement), but Sometimes complying with the most basic and generic request can save so much trouble.

    Great news for

Owners of PC Owners of Mac Owners of Xbox Owners of Switch You can come back and complain if ANY game becomes Xbox exclusive. I don’t see Microsoft doing that. As the NYT points out: most gamers are excited. Despite what anti-big-tech media and Sony owners think.

  • FTC Pushes New Rule To Try And Kill Bullshit ‘Junk Fees’

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 16 Oct, 2023 @ 08:25pm

    Junk law created junk fees

Let’s not pass over the fact that most of these “junk” fees are actual costs imposed upon providers by the government. Nonsense like being forced to carry local stations AND being forced to pay those stations regardless of user use. Up front Or regional sports fees. Or service taxes. Etc. Most of these fees are the fault of local and federal laws that harm the consumer. It would be nice to have a flat rate. The full cost up front. All purchases should be the full price up front. Be it cable tv or bread.

    LostInLoDOS ( profile ), 16 Oct, 2023 @ 08:16pm

    Wait, huh?

Isn’t the general Democrat position on content that, as long as it’s available elsewhere, it’s not censorship? Don’t both articles and commentators here say there is no such thing as localised censorship? Guess the opinion changes now that something you care about has been published out of places you want it. I stand by what I’ve said most of my life, once it’s removed, it’s been censored. Be careful what you wish for.
