  They've had their power pulled time and time again. (And again when the GOP is in power.) A coherent national communications policy won't be made there.

  The ultimate solution would be for the government to order the breakup of all the mergers through the years, but that will never happen. Our government only has the gonads to go after those not capable of fighting (aka. individuals). I believe an economy is strongest when money is moving and not stagnant. The more entities exchanging money for whatever, the better. Mergers have a tendency to kill that flow.

  What ever happened to the simple solution of charging one price with ads, and another without? Lot of tech hoops being jumped, when a solution is already available. It least the customer gets to choose to pay more or not.

  Even if the FCC had the balls... they don't. If the DOJ cared... they don't. If the next administration flip didn't erase it all, again... it will. The FCC gives a shit about one thing... no overlapping frequencies. We should all stop pretending they are there for anything else.

  This is all well and good, but those that believe more is better are just going to say that the only difference is that crime is not being reported and criminals are going away with more. What "used" to be some people ignoring stats/facts, has turned into most people ignoring stats/facts. Particularly from the "law and order" party.

  That's not the point. Another 4 year stay for the scrapping of net neutrality again? Big deal. We need long term. If anybody truly wanted to solve this problem the government needs to do one of two things. Break the monopolies. (Not gonna happen) or Pass a federal law allowing any local government to fund and build it's own network and the carriers lease bandwidth from it. If consumers could change providers with a phone call, things would change radically. And smaller outfits "could" crop up since the barrier of entry of network investment is removed.

I have yet to see a legal definition of "a meaningful business relationship". The informal one commonly used by merchants, "you're on our mailing list". And they always say "it may take time" when you opt out. I got news for you purchasers of prime Florida Everglades property out there. If the removal isn't immediate, it's never going to happen.
