  Besides, even if there is an overwhelming hatred of S230 in Congress, the reason why will always find itself split: Republicans want less moderation whereas democrats want more. There’s a shared hatred, but that’s the extent. Plus, Goldman, I respect him and his work, but he is notorious about his bleak pessimism towards digital regulation, especially S230. I don’t blame him, but he’s the last person you want to see for a positive take.

  Enough you two. First off, just because the internet might be heading to a darker phase, doesn’t mean that it will remain forever be that way. The internet is way more complicated and dynamic than that. It’s always changing and evolving in ways better or worse. Things might look bad, AU 1, but there’s always a silver lining shimmering. Secondly, other AU, stop spamming and attacking people because they’re legitimately worried. What AU #1 is saying isn’t Doomerist, it’s genuine concern.

  Ngl I am worried about the Paxton case because we have no idea which way the Supreme Court will go. On one hand, SCOTUS is historically supportive of free speech and from what I heard Texas is going to have an uphill battle for this case due to the fact that it’s Paxton (who is inept in every aspect). But on the other hand, the defense is for the adult industry and this SC seems fickle about holding up precedence (ie TikTok, abortion, etc.). I genuinely do not know what will be the outcome. Paxton? Porn? Somewhere in the middle? I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed. Murphy’s Law seems to be way more accurate lately since yesteryear.

The Internet will always change, for better and for worse. And if the Free Speech Coalition loses the Paxton case, then so what? Do they give up? Would they ball up into a fetal position until the heat death of the universe? No. Netchoice, Fight for the Future nor Electronic Frontier Foundation will never give up even after any level of setback and neither should you.

  Need I remind you that when KOSA got introduced in May 2023, it took over a year to try and pass it through the Senate. Despite its “overwhelming” bipartisan support; despite becoming filibuster proof in February. Congress is slow, notoriously slow. Time is the biggest enemy for anything in Congress. And even if it does become law, KOSA would be on mighty thin ice when applied with the 1st Amendment in a legal sense. That’s because it’s not meant to survive legal scrutiny; it’s an empty nothing-burger, an arrogant piece of ego that claims it’s doing good, all the while doing more harm than good. Maybe this bill will get the FOSTA treatment; maybe it will Peter out and lose gas. Who knows? But the only thing I know is that this monstrosity of legal bastardization still needs to be stopped, every step of the way. Because if you give up, you will lose. But if you try, you’ll might lose.
