No doubt. Kinda reminds me of Into the Woods, where there’s a clear distinction between being good (doing things regardless of they benefit you) and being nice (where it can be superficial and transactional). I still think it’s still worth it to be kind, even if people view it as nice.
You don’t need to be a great figure like Martin Luther King Jr or a Malcolm X to be revolutionary or even wait for one. In a world where the government is cruel and oppressive, being kind and decent is just enough. Even to people that might not deserve it. Because right now, kindness and gentleness are revolutionary.
So keep fighting then. Keep calling them, keep holding their feet to the fire, make them listen. Even if you think that this feels impossible and pointless. Giving in to fear helps no one and it certainly doesn’t help you. I understand this feels insurmountable, but it’s not impossible. I’m frustrated with democrats too, so you’re not alone.

The more you speak, the less convincing you are. If Netchoice was pro-Republican from the start, why is one of their most reoccurring opponents in court cases is Texas (a Republican stronghold)? The states that have been ramping up age-restrictive, anti-porn, or any regressive digital policies that Netchoice has been pushing against? Most of them red states. The two big cases involving S. 230, Murphy and Paxton in 2023? From Texas and Missouri, two deeply Republican states. Netchoice isn’t pro-Republican, but it’s not Pro-Democrat either, they’re pro-free speech. They represent a lot of websites, big and small. They’re not a perfect organization by any means (that letter of them supporting Jim Jordan and Rand Paul’s ideas is… a choice), but neither is the concept of free speech. And I think it’s rather reductive that the answer to formalizing a true free speech movement is to exclude the organization that defends, defending, and will defend Section 230 because they’re pressured into supporting a questionable-at-best legislation. In fact, I say that’s counterproductive for the first amendment. And if you want to die in that hill, well you do you. But you’re going to have to convince me with a little more concrete evidence (outside of the letter) and legitimate sources. Also why do you have such a weird hate boner for Chris Cox?
Et tu Netchoice?
I too wish it would be that easy.
The only thing that is certain in these times is its uncertainty. That also applies with future elections. You make it seem like all of this is inevitable, when in reality that’s far from the truth. I agree with you that things are bleak, but again, the only things in these times is its uncertainty.
With all that said, we can find humor in dark moments like this. After all, Musk can Oligarche on deez nuts.
Oh definitely, I am deeply concerned about the situation. Let’s not sugarcoat it, we’re in deep shit. It feels like every day is another drop in a layer of Hell. And make no mistake, Musk is a fascist megalomaniac. And when I’m referring to plutocracy, I’m not referring to it in a positive light. It means “rule by wealth.” It’s what literally defines the state of America since “Citizens United.”
To me DOGE has a double meaning. On one hand, it’s an extremely cringe coop to something pure. But the other meaning has horrifying implications to me. It could be a reference to the title of the Italian Merchant republics that are infamous for their plutocratical systems. So the horrifying implication here is: Does Elon musk want to be the Doge of America? I mean if he is, then he’s not being subtle about it. He seig-hailed from day one for goodness sake.
Sigh Some things never change.
And that’s saying something given how vast that number of dimwits and legit evil people there are in the government field, albeit at the state level or the federal level.
Ironic how the lawmakers of the Heart -lands are actually some of the most heartless politicians that isn’t in DC right now.
Trump voter: But, bbbut, but…, MOi Egs!
Look, mate. I know things are difficult, but running around and screaming the obvious is not really productive is it? Could you please do that somewhere else and not in Techdirt? Not gonna do armchair therapy today.
If the plan here is to kill the US within a year, it’s working. Support your bookstores and libraries, whenever you can. The remedy to the Anti-Intellectual onslaught are books.
Clearly he wasn’t using either of his hands for driving.
About that particular Durbin post, the fact that the replies overwhelmingly outnumber the amount of likes puts a smile on my face.
