  • Another Study Shockingly Discovers That Cable TV Needs To Compete On Price

    jnemesh ( profile ), 07 Nov, 2018 @ 12:18pm

    Price isn't the only issue...

They also need to compete by using less compression (trashing the picture quality...content looks FAR better on Amazon or Netflix, even at 1080p than the 1080i/highly compressed Xfinity crap).

Most importantly, they need to decide if their revenue is coming from subscriptions or commercial advertising. I REFUSE to pay for ad infested video streams! If you want to advertise, provide the channel for free...if you want my MONEY, then I want ad-free content! You can't have it both ways!

Finally, they need to compete by putting their content on a streaming app that is available on most major brand TVs and set top boxes like Apple TV and Roku. The need to lease a power hungry box with obsolete technology is a dealbreaker! Give me the content, where I want to watch it, on the devices I want to watch them on, and where I want to watch it without restriction.

They won't do any of this, however, so I will continue to keep my cord cut.

  • Tech Journalists Keep Completely Missing The Point Of Cord Cutting

    jnemesh ( profile ), 21 Aug, 2017 @ 04:40pm

JUST cut the cord, did NOT get a "cable replacement"

I just cut the cord a week ago, after a YEAR of paying for cable service and not even having the box plugged in. I live with 2 of my younger brothers, I am 45, and they are 25 and 29. We didnt miss "traditional" cable AT ALL! The few shows I HAD to watch, The Expanse and Legion, I just bought on Google Play, and I subscribe to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and (while GoT is airing) HBO Now.

I have ZERO interest in a "cable replacement" such as Sling, PS Vue, or DirecTV Now. Why? Because I REFUSE to watch ads or PAY for the "privilege" of watching ads. If you want to air advertisements, fine, make the programming FREE! If you want subscription revenue, fine, just dont put in ads! You can't have it both ways guys...either you get ad revenue or subscription revenue, but I am NOT going to give you money to be advertised to! Nor will I pay RENT on overpriced, underpowered hardware!

I am still getting gouged by Comcast for Internet (now $95/mo for 200Mbps service), but my bill was over $180 before. I WONT be going back to the "traditional" model. CORD CUT!

bullshit. They are ALREADY doing it!

So, it's incompatible...until they sanction it?

    Don't believe the hype!

You WONT be projecting a 120" screen with this projector! If you DO, it will be incredibly dim and neigh unwatchable. More likely you will stick to a 50" or smaller image size.

    Convincing proof...

This is proof, beyond a reasonable doubt, that deep and broad reform is needed in the US political system. The political revolution is underway...we WILL elect Bernie Sanders as our next President! But it doesn't end with him! We need to "clean House" (and Senate!) and rid our government of those who serve the interests of the corporations and the rich! We need to reform our campaign finance system to rid the influence of them from OUR democracy! And we need to make lobbying COMPLETELY illegal! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WE ALL need to STAND TOGETHER and retake our democracy from the forces that have been undermining our nation!

  • The Cable Industry Is Absolutely Terrified Of Set Top Box Competition

    Sony's Playstation Vue

If I weren't locked into a two year contract, and if they offered service in Seattle, I would immediately switch to Sony's Playstation Vue cable service! I could use my game console as my set top box, and eliminate the cable box from my system completely! Not to mention that I could record an UNLIMITED number of shows...

The only thing that the cable companies have "innovated" is a sub par viewing experience with outdated, hard to control hardware and cumbersome remotes!

Hopefully, this happens to ALL "free to pay" mobile devs!

This trend of "freemium" can't die soon enough! I had visions, once upon a time, of playing FULL RETAIL quality games on my mobile device. I imagined a Nintendo GameBoy like experience, but with better screens and more powerful hardware. Instead, we get Candy Crush...and Bubble Witch! We even have one company making their frekin' LOADING screens longer for free users "Pay now to shorten loading times!" BULLSHIT! It all needs to die in flames!
