What would happen if every single library in the US bought a porsche and allowed it to be checked out 3 weeks at a time for free. Well the first thing would be that many systems would probably have to buy a couple extras because of the demand to check out the car. The second is that over time they would be worn out and the libraries would have to buy more porsches to replace them. I am pretty sure that this system would actually result in a net increase in the number of porsches sold in the US, and porsche would love it.
If littering hundreds of sheets of paper on my private property that I then have to dispose of is protected speech then shouldn't spray painting a message on the side of my house be as well. In fact shouldn't I be required to allow companies to paint a billboard on the side of my house as long as they also include a map of the area around their business? This is asinine, they aren't being prevented from printing or distributing their "product" only from dumping it on people's property against their will. Before I got on a do not distribute list I was receiving nearly a foot tall stack of 10-12 different yellow pages per year. I hope the ordinance will be rewritten more narrowly and rather than creating a list simply ban the dumping of paper on private property entirely.
while there is some dispute over who actually flew first, there is significant evidence that whoever it was his last name was not Wright. When they received the Wright's plane in 1948 the Smithsonian secretly agreed that if they could have the plane they would never say anyone else had flown before the Wrights. This contract was eventually exposed through a FOIA request by Stella Randolph and William O'Dwyer. The first in flight may have been Gustave Whitehead, or it might have been someone else, but because of the financial incentive of being able to say that they possess the artifact associated with the Wright Brother's myth the smithsonian continues to advance something as fact which they know is likely not true.
It is unbelievable to me that in his note he acts like having to go to 2 separate websites and rate each movie 2 times is somehow an advantage over the current system. Part of what makes netflix good is that it is quick and easy to use, the new method guarantees it will take twice as long to rate a movie.
Here in Oregon Comcast advertises like crazy that it's crappy on demand service has movies right away, 28 days before netflix/redbox, so it seems like the only one benefiting from this is comcast's marketing department.
I wish he would put it on netflix, so I could watch it and he could get some money from it. Maybe he is trying I don't know exactly how the netflix royalties work, and I can work a bittorrent as well as the next guy but don't mind tossing it in the netflix queue especially since I think that does help the makers get paid...
The real problem is a lack of enforcement coupled with penalties that don't fit the crime. The penalty for texting on a cell phone that you are holding on the floor while driving should be that you are not allowed to drive for awhile, 6 months, a year, it is just as dangerous as drunk driving but we penalize it like it is the same as going 60 in a 55.

as someone who was laid off at the same time that hurd was using company funds to pay former porn stars to "escort" him around I think the main mistake here was paying him off, rather than trying to have him prosecuted for stealing company funds and firing him outright. However I am surprised to learn that 40 million dollars worth of severance can not make a non compete clause enforceable, seems like a contract with compensation to me.
Regardless he should be prosecuted for insider trading as he dumped millions in stock just days before the news of his tryst/resignation became public.
The ink cartridges that come with your printer generally come with far less ink than the replacement cartridge you buy at the store. This lets people startup without having to buy additional ink. Always buy the largest size supply you can get for your printer, they are a much better deal cost of ownership wise.
Actually Kodak uses a very suspect test method that relies on continuous printing to make their claims. If you look at the amount of ink lost to servicing and the amount thrown away because they use ganged supplies the total cost of ownership will be much higher for most people. In addition the quality is low, I would never buy a kodak and I test these things for a living.
One point of the book is that big parking lots that sit empty most of the time reduce the density of a city. If those parking lots were converted to mixed use development then there would be more people living near those businesses and more places for businesses to be located. This means that the average distance from a home to a grocery store would be significantly lower, reducing the need to drive to the store.
A second main point of the book is that often even with free parking there is no where to park, because it is all full. His idea is to price parking at a level where it is ~80% full, so yeah you have to pay but you always know that you will be able to park on the block where you are going without having to drive around circling looking for a space. this can actually encourage people to shop at places that currently have very little open parking.
I work in the inkjet industry, and not only is it ok for other companies to make refill ink for our printers, if we do to much to prevent it we would be violating the law. That said no one can sell ink branded with our company logo. So what I would say is that if the competitor was selling towels that were branded as GP then they would have a case, but if the person paying for the towel knows they are buying a generic version of the product then GP doesn't have a leg to stand on, and may find that their provision is illegal.

One of the benefits of the rom I use on the epic 4g from ACS is that it has carrier iq removed. Many roms do this.
rate movies twice???

Portland Oregon has taken the opposite approach opening up all their bus gps data etc and it has had some great results including mobile apps.

Re: bought a kodak and it kept breaking
yeah when we were trying to do competitive testing against the kodaks we had to buy a ton because they kept breaking on us too.
