  • How Much Taxpayer Money Is Wasted By Grandstanding Politicians On Unconstitutional 'For The Children' Laws?

    DMan55 ( profile ), 26 Sep, 2007 @ 02:43pm

    Don't mix the issues!

Nation health care, esp for kids is NOT the same things as laws designed to infringe on the rights or some people for the sake of others.

If we could have a national health care system that at least made sure the next generation of Americans gets a fair start, thats great AND its constitutional.

You can't compare that to a law that says, Person A can't browse the web because under aged person B MIGHT see something inappropriate while trespassing in person A's house... Stuff like that is 100% BS and nothing at all like my 1st example.

  • The Buzz Over New Battery Technology… And The Questions Raised By Its Patents

    DMan55 ( profile ), 05 Sep, 2007 @ 12:54pm

    Hey John B

The problem is that this kind of "work in progress" patenting does nothing but HURT the innovative process. The patent holder should be the 1st one to have a FINISHED product, not an idea on how to possibly create that finished product... If 2 companies are working on a technology, the winner of the patent should be the guy that ACTUALLY MAKES SOMETHING THAT WORKS, not the fastest guy with a pen and pad... thus forcing the guy thats actually perfecting the technology to ultimately pay the paper pusher money for an idea he couldn't finish.

  • People Want Analysis Of The News, Rather Than Just Facts

There are quite a few places, especially on the Internet, where you can find the facts behind most issues.

IMHO, the conservative media/political proponents, have been far worse at providing factual information. Sure the liberal media does tend to leave a lot to be desired, but when I listen to conservative talk radio or read conservatively biased articles, they seem to almost belittle anyone that would try to apply real logic to what they're asserting.

I mean come on, in both elections one of George Bush's big campaign points was that Gore(2000) and then Kerry(2004) were too "intellectual"... what exactly does that mean? Did we really elect a president because he WASN'T as smart as his opponents? I never understood how that worked. Anyway... I really think America's greatest issue right now is our LACK of ability to constructively debate our common issues. We're the UNITED STATES of America, but our recent political "leaders" have turned us into the SQUABBLING IDEALOGICAL FACTIONS of America. I honestly know in my heart that the majority of American's could figure it out if realized that we could. But instead we end up healing that if you're a liberal, then you must think X... and if you're a conservative, you must think Y... Then the people that assume they must be one of the above simply stop thinking... THERE is where your lack of critical thinking skills comes into the picture.

Re: opinions are exactly what younger people are l

No Tim, it's because analyzing other well though out opinions helps us SHARPEN our own person critical thinking skills. Maybe you should think about your own skills.

Great musicians got that way by.... listening to other artists! Great thinkers sharpen their skills by.... assessing the though processes of other thinkers!

Personally I like both. I prefer opinion articles at least state the facts they're basing their opinions on... Nothing will turn me off of a site faster than realizing that they're telling half-truths in order to "prove" a point. To me that just proves you never had a point if you have to lie or leave out pertinent facts to support your argument.

Anyway... I wish more Americans would read both sides of the issue (opinions and all) and then find the "truth" behind the issue that best suits them. No, we all wouldn't likely find the same "truth" but that's OK. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing as long as we respect and understand the opposing view enough to find a suitable compromise when appropriate.

Hey Nobody... Do you HAVE a Wii? I do and my family LOVES it. It's a HUGE success and everyone that I know who owns one LOVES there's to. In fact many of my family and friends that own a Wii, never owned a PS2 or XBox. The Wii is actually broadening the console market, while the PS3 and XBox fight over people like you.

I can't wait to see the lawsuits.

Absolutely 100% agree. And this is why we need serious change in patent law.

  • Microsoft's Changing Views On Patents; When You're Young You Need To Innovate; When You're Old You Need To Litigate

    Jaded ppl are so sad.

MS certainly has helped push the PC generation to where it is today. To say thats not innovative is a sad lie and complete ignorance of facts and history. Its not Bill's fault Xerox didn't know what they had or how to market it. Apple didn't steal they idea they cultivated it and gave it relavence. MS did the same with reguards to the GUI interface. Yes, others had tried to do it, but MS happen to be at the right place at the right time and actually made it into a commonly useful tool.

Caveman A carved a rock into a circle and pushed it down a hill, but only saw his invention as an interesting toy.

Caveman B saw Caveman A and decided to do the exact same thing, but this time used it to help move a heavy boulder.

    Which was innovative?

    What?

The earlier quote is by Bill Gates, the latter is by a MS lawyer!

I'd bet that Bill still stands behind his original comments. Even though if he had to stand behind a particular view point today, he'd HAVE to pick that of his lawyer. There's a big difference between ideals and business practice. He'd be doing MS share holders a HUGE dis-service not advocating whatever LEGAL strategy makes the company profits.

Now that said, what needs to happen is change in Patent law such that Bill's early days views are enforeced in the future, then the playing field is leveled.

  • Here Come The Laws Against Online Bullying

    Re: bullying

Soft? Wow how clueless are you! Kids today live with more violence than you hippies and disco babies can imagine.

The problem with bullying today is that it escalates FAST. And it doesn't escalate to fist fighting, it can escalate to a glock to the back of the head... and we're not talking about the rare school shooting, we're talking about the far more common neighborhood voilence that doesn't make national news media coverage.

Soft... hehe you should become a teacher.

If all you do on the internet is download porn, then yes, its simply a perk. But in todays United States, the internet is vastly more incorporated into our daily lives than a simple perk of city life.

No it didn't start out this way, but more and more, the internet has become a major form of communication & education and facilitator for everything from financial to medical services.

Not having access is becoming more and more a detriment.

Now, I'm not saying that everyone should have top notch broadband access, but I don't think a kid that can't afford the internet should be doomed to a 2nd class education simply due to that fact of circumstance.

His point is, most consumers don't have "a properly calibrated audiophile grade setup" and really don't care that much about the different quality results. mp3s aren't popular becasue they're the best quality... if you wanted quality was your primary concern you wouldn't be using a compressed format at all. In fact you'd be listening to records on a high quality player.

Yes these new technologies are great! I'm usually an early adoptor in tech areas, and I love all the new stuff, but I don't see any of these technologies being consumer driven. They're being pushed and hyped by marketing and nothing more.

    Re: Re: Re: Confuse?

The HD TV craze is cause mostly by the fact that HD TVs are becoming more available and cheaper than traditional TVs. NOT becasue of the image quality hype. Oh and BTW, I bought a new 60 inch rear projection in 1999, just before the HD craze started and see no reason to replace that TV with an HD version. My bedroom TV is old and when I replace it I probably will "upgrade" to HD, only because its more available that traditional TVs.

Oh and I'd go LCD before I went with a non LCD based HD, size for me is more important than picture quality.

    Re: Cops

Wow, you sound like a complete hyper sensative moron. If anything get mad at the people that disgrace your profession, not the people that point out the embarrasements. This just adds fuel to the flames. Law enforcement in this country is 90% good solid brave people doing a tough job, but the 10% that step ouit of line casue alot of discomfort, and the last thing any GOOD cop should EVER do is defend bad behavior.

And then to infer that someone that makes not of bad behavior must be a criminal really does make you look like one of the bad guys. Good cops are on the side of good, not the side of cops. Check yourself or recognize you're not as good as you think you are.
