Getting what I pay for ...

Ok, so after I give Murdock my dollar, what do I use to line the bottom of my bird cage? It's the only real value I see in newspapers of today. The city of Dallas has one newspaper... one ... haha. It's as big a neocon bubba as are the majority of my fellow Texans. The Republicans scream "liberal press" when anyone dares contradict them. Yet every newspaper in Texas regularly endorses the Republican slate. Texas used to be Mississippi with better roads. Now our only good roads are tollways, built by Republicans by their brothers in law. Newspapers can stick it up their ***, I'll never give them a nickel.

    The beat goes on...

Years ago the cartoonist Al Capp (Lil Abner) introduced a new character, a folk singer, who rode around in a limo to sing about poverty and hunger. He named her Joanie Phony. Joan Baez, in righteous indignation, sued him. I recall that he apologized on the Johnny Carson show, saying he was indeed sorry that Miss Baez believed she might be Joanie Phony. She looked like an idiot.

    How do they do it?

I'm not overly naive, usually, but Limewire says it's all anonymous. So how the hell does the AA know what me and a guy in Detroit are doing? Also, do they move against a criminal file sharer immediately or do they wait until he racks up enough downloads to increase their revenues substantially?

  • Is Google Going Too Far In Latest Advertising Bans?

    Charlie Potatoes ( profile ), 15 Dec, 2009 @ 03:24pm

    Level playing fields

I violated no terms of service whatsoever. When my site at www.NewWorldEssays.com was banned from advertising I asked the ad exec why. He said it was 'immoral' to write essays for students. So I asked who made Google the keeper of public morals, but I got nowhere. Later I would see some of my much bigger competitors' ads on Google. I would call and complain. Each time I was thanked for bringing it go their attention, but they did nothing about it. Apparently Google's idea of morality is directly linked to the number of clicks your website can generate. Today I advertise on 3rd rate search engines while my huge competitors are free to violate the morals of American youth via Google. Is this a great country or what?

    Right to Privacy

I'm pretty much rabid about right to privacy, as well as government intrusion into my quietly desperate life ... but I think that anyone stupid enough to post such things on their own site deserve the flak they get. Natural selection will settle it all eventually anyway.

    theft of books

In 1971 Abbey Hoffman (of the 1968 Chicago Police Department Riots) wrote a book with the unusual title of "Steal This Book" which discussed living free. Many of his readers took his advice and stole it, certainly. But many more paid for it. He got publicity for a book that I would not have ever heard of by so doing. Point is ... the writer we are discussing today is doing the same thing. I've never heard of him, you've never heard of him, but now his name is all over my monitor screen. OK People!! come to www.NewWorldEssays.com and steal my essays!!! NOW !!! Actually its a nice ploy. Thanks to Abbey for thinking of it.

    Hirst an artist?

Hirst is no more an artist than was Pollack, Warhol, Bacon, Rothko, and the rest of that ilk. Picasso said it best, that he had never been an artist, but rather was an entertainer, who understood his times. Maybe Hirst is going for the Streisand Effect. Either way, its a sad joke.

  • Can There Be A Fair File Sharing Trial When The Language Is All Biased?

    Charlie Potatoes ( profile ), 17 Aug, 2009 @ 12:24pm

    co-opting the language

The Right Wing Evangelical Christian Republicans (see how nice I'm being) have smeared the Democrats, (who seem too dazed to realize they're getting their heads handed to them on a platter) for years, and have made the words Liberal Democrat a catch phrase which many people now tend to accept as truth. They have made Family Values synonymous with their party, which is the funniest thing I've heard in politics since Lyndon's classic remark about Gerald Ford and chewing gum.
I noticed that in the first Gulf War the enemy shot nasty vile missiles called SCUDS at us, but we only retaliated with our All American missiles, called PATRIOTS... It has to do with framing, and with petitio principii. It is propaganda. Intelligent people see through it, but since it continues, I must assume that Bubba does not.
