  • WSJ: Lobbyists Easily Destroyed Any Semi-Serious Antitrust Enforcers Left In MAGA

  • WSJ: Lobbyists Easily Destroyed Any Semi-Serious Antitrust Enforcers Left In MAGA

People like the WSJ have been after this outcome for decades so to pretend it's bad now is utterly disingenuous. We're seeing the enablers of oligarchy getting those lifeboats in the water now so they can pretend they were never on board and can sail away with credibility, same as the MSNBC\CNN\Fox Bush era neocons.

Meanwhile in the real world, the people running the slop generators are donating to the people committing real world McCarthyism, purging anyone they deem to be part of the nebulous 'woke left' from public life, which includes the most milquetoast of centrist comedians, trans people, any actor who has an opinion in public, women, minorities... We know you are desperate to defend the indefensible, but get a bloody grip.

You can tell he's lying, it's a day that ends in a y. Nobody but the Elisons and Trump want this, but like sex with Donald, it is happening anyway.

What concessions did gamergate win? They're still making the same complaints every time a new game comes out not showing what they deem to be enough boob, they just made a bunch of women's lives unbearable for nothing. Also the criticisms of AI usage aren't even remotely comparable so sod off with that, covered up midriffs, non white game protagonists and women with realistic builds aren't comparable to billionaires stripmining art and culture, environmental disaster and the push for fascism and mass unemployment.

  • Turns Out That Advertisers Not Wanting To Fund Neo-Nazi-Adjacent Content Isn’t An Antitrust Violation

    Bloof ( profile ), 28 Mar, 2026 @ 01:23am

It wasn't neo nazi adjacent, it's true, a lot of it was just straight up neo nazi, with Elon posting and boosting great replacement theory content every chance he gets. If X were doing great he'd be getting ready to float it on the stock market, not rolling it and it's crippling debt into a company that will be on the receiving end of massive government subsidies for the foreseeable future.

  • CBS News Under Bari Weiss Sees Worst Ratings In Quarter Century

    Bloof ( profile ), 27 Mar, 2026 @ 05:41am

If you're going to pivot rightwards, you do it slowly, Facebook didn't start out enabling right wing nutters from day one, it took a while to get where it is now as an engine for making sure boomers vote for fascists and die alone. Ellison and Weiss decided to go the Elon route and do it in a way devoid of all subtlety and the frog kept from the pot before it reached boiling point.

  • AI Might Be Our Best Shot At Taking Back The Open Web

    Bloof ( profile ), 27 Mar, 2026 @ 03:46am

Defeatist is accepting a future you do not want and you know full well others do not want as inevitable and trying to polish a turd by openwashing a broken product that benefits the gatekeepers. Refusing to use the technology, being vocal about it and all the countless ethical and environmental issues associated with it is a damn sight more helpful than going, 'Oh but this form of rolling coal autocorrect is good, even though none of the problems are addressed in any meaningful way... Also surrender all your work to scrapers because you might block the good scrapers, thanks.' What you are doing is basically laying in front of the partially built gates and showing your belly, saying it will be fine as there's a gap in the bushes people can still use, and wondering why people are pushing back about it and are pointing out it is hard to find and easily sealed. Open source AI is not the better way for anything, it doesn't address any of the problems people have and doesn't change the fact the underlying technology is doing things people could do already, but making them worse. Again, you need to step back and talk to normal people and get their perspectives, not people agreeing with you in emails, people on blue sky and definitely not the pro AI people from Koch funded think tanks.

  • AI Might Be Our Best Shot At Taking Back The Open Web

    Bloof ( profile ), 26 Mar, 2026 @ 12:33pm

You're kidding, right? Google have set AI summary as the default for search and have recently patented technology for using AI to completely rewrite and create facsimiles of pages they deem not up to snuff. They have literally told people if they block AI scraping they may well end up unlisted entirely. We have literally seen what was the gateway to the open internet for many people eraked a 20 foot high barricade in front of it while letting everyone on the other side starve of ad revenue. Microsoft have done likewise, shoving AI into every aspect of Windows and things they control like Github, claiming ownership of everything they can unless people know to opt out and leaving people with no choice but to capitulate in most cases. You may well see open source alternatives as providing a magical get out of enforced tech oligarchy, but people are busily forcing slop into the open source software and major device makers are making sideloading near impossible for most people so that option may as well not exist. We are watching fresh barriers to the web as it was be erected on a daily basis, and whatever you think open source AI will achieve, it will not, it's just openwashing a technology that will only ever be a for profit fencing off of the commons, on creative works on a scale the media you rail against could only dream of. You are not most people. Spend some time looking at what non techies do when they use the internet, speak to normal people, they are not buzzing about open source saving anything, they don't know how to get these things and likely never will because those gates are closing and you and other columnists here are more focussed on telling people not to yell and try to stop it. You don't like the present, none of us do, but the future your embracing will be so much worse.

  • AI Might Be Our Best Shot At Taking Back The Open Web

    Bloof ( profile ), 25 Mar, 2026 @ 11:03am

Open source AI isn't going to 'save us', it's going to be a figleaf at best, likely eventually sponsored by Google or OpenAI to ward off antitrust efforts in countries that still have laws. It reminds me of all the good and ethical crypto projects people swore would redeem that bundle of scammers, best part of a decade on we're still waiting for them to make something other than headlines and unnecessary e-waste. Meanwhile in the real world, AI is causing untold damage to actual open source projects as slop is poured in through any opening they can find, and even if the AI generating things is open too, free range and locally sourced, the sloppy output will still be slop..? Oh, and the environmental issues haven't even been touched in any meaningful way yet. I doubt the good AI will be building green energy and desalinisation plants to power it all, no more than Anthropic have.

  • AI Might Be Our Best Shot At Taking Back The Open Web

    Bloof ( profile ), 25 Mar, 2026 @ 10:33am

Nothing helps take something back quite like allowing billion dollar companies to stripmine it as they see fit then build near impenetrable walls around the crater and then grant them a perpetual license to retain complete control of every road leading there as well as all the signage and erect tollbooths every 500 meters. Pull the other one. You may not like copyright holders but the bright shiny AI driven future is a worse version of the web3 imagined by VC twats like Marc Andreesen. At least Web3 wouldn't continually hammer everything else online with scrapers and openly plan to have AI generate knockoffs of webpages it seems unworthy of a direct link, you know, the thing Google have filed patents for. If people just surrender to AI the way enthusiasts wish, we won't eventually be treated better no more than we were when trickle down economics was tried for the hundredth time, they will just wall off yet another chunk of the commons entirely

'The idea that they would hype up technology that nobody can use strikes me as unlikely in the extreme.' Did you just pop out of a time machine from the 1920's? How often have we been pitched awesome new tech that's only a few years away that isn't? Elon Musk is approaching being a trillionaire based on the imagined value of his tech announcement company because he uses the announcement of things to bump the share price. The reason people are cynical this will make it to market any time soon is based on the actions of Nvidia, they have spent the past decade fuelling a shortage of their own product, prioritising gambling on Crypto, now AI, being part of the OpenAi and Oracle 'investment' ouroboros. People cannot afford or find what they are putting out now, and have no reason to believe the cards needed to run this will be available in large quantities any time soon and at an affordable price.

  • The Trump Admin’s Own Investigators Found No EU Internet Censorship. So They Ignored The Findings.

They're desperate to try and brew a cold war style conflict with Europe to justify the fact Trump keeps on cosying up to any autocrat that gives him a shiny bauble and tells him he's pretty, and to try and make it so American tech companies that donate to them are allowed to ignore the laws of the places they operate in... Even laws the US helped to craft to try and stop the return of fascism after WW2.

They know everything they destroy now will never, ever be replaced so they're driving a bulldozer through as much as possible to try and get it done before anyone is in a position to stop them, in the hopes that if they do to culture, journalism and government what they did to retail and industry, nobody will ever be in a position to stand in their way.

They'll shuffle him out of the spotlight for a couple of months but he's not going anywhere, they brought him into government because he's a malignant narcissist who doesn't care how many children die as long as he can find some way to use government to justify what he already believes in his drug addled brain. If they fire him, they know that he will resume working as a third party spoiler candidate and do them a lot of damage in swing seats where the margins are tiny.
