Nice, now tell me, are the people saying 'we need to bring back manufacturing' and the same people complaining about data centers one and the same because if they aren't, you are putting words in people's mouths. I somehow doubt that the minority communities who are fighting to stop data centers being built on top of them are the same ones giving grand political speeches about bringing back, or the ones who have learned too late that the data center they were told would use little water and power, would be clean and quiet will actually cause bills to skyrocket, run illegal gas turbines and sound like living next to Mordor. You can write off a lot of views if you're willing to cast a net wide enough to lump people into a collective 'we' to create hypocrisy, maybe don't do that.
Nice goalpost moving there, love the use of the 'you complain about capitalism, yet live in a capitalist system, hmmm' style line of thought. Keep at it, you can go pro, kid. None of that addresses the fact that they DID NOT ASK PATREON DONORS BEFORE USING THEIR MONEY FOR AN UNETHICAL THING THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY SAY NO TO. Asking for consent before doing something is not purity testing and pretending otherwise is quite frankly horrendous. Jesus, if an AI enthusiast starts hitting on you in a bar, folks, cover your drink when you're not taking a sip. They clearly cannot grasp that other people have the right to say no.
And again, he did not ask the people providing that money if they were okay with using something that is by it's very nature, unethical. We may not be talking about an AI spammer, but we are talking about someone who took money from people who believed it would be used one way and used it another way without consultation, asking people if they think it is okay to use an error prone system to save art at the expense of the people and planet that produces it... Also those scans of the original works in Japanese that people thought they were paying to have archived weren't going to stop existing if they weren't AI translated immediately, so all they've really done is make it so there's less money for them to spend on actual archiving.
Let's see how well the modern day republican party does at following the commandments they want to replace the rule of law and adorn every public space, shall we? 1 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me." They're actively encouraging and participating n modern day Trump worshipping cults like qAnon, so that's a fail there. 2 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments." Gold Trump statue at CPac, Trump's image slapped on every building he controls. Fail. 3 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Trump's followers have embraced the weaponisation of religion they do not adhere to and he surrounds himself with prosperity gospel ghouls who do no good works in the name of a god they pretend to represent. Fail. 4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." Many GOP donors are from crunch heavy or gig economy industries, not a lot of Sundays off there, another fail. 5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you." Trump himself robbed his siblings and their children of their share of his father's wealth, lots of honour there. Fail. 6 “You shall not murder." Epstein files allegations, Epstein himself allegedly, drone strikes on people in boats in Venezuelan waters... Faaaail. 7 “You shall not commit adultery. Ask Newt Gingrich, or better yet, Trump and of his wives, current and former, or Stormy Daniels, Michael Cohen... Fail. 8 “You shall not steal. See 5, and most of Trump's actions over the past 50 years. He only made money when stealing from someone. Fail. 9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." How have all the claims made against Canada and Europe held up? Election theft from Latin America? Venezuela as the drug capital of the world? Fail 10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.” Venezuela's oil fields say hi, Greenland's mineral wealth, Mexico's oil reserves... Faily fail fail fail.
Orrrrrr... People planning to use donors money should ask before spending it on things they know there's a good chance a large portion of the people providing the money would object to. It is not hard to ask permission first, it is, however, nearly impossible to regain trust after spaffing away money on things people find morally objectionable.
Random number pulled from thin air, vs Trump having dinner with Nick goddamned Fuentes and Kanye West, embracing far right conspiracy theories based on rehashed blood libel like Qanon, mainstreaming people like Alex Jones and the 'globalist' crew, shrugging off Elon and his nazi salute, the various comments he's made dismissing Jews who don't vote for him as not real Jews...
Because the goal of AI boosters is to smear all their opponent as unreasonable, hence their continual lumping of the Roko's Basilisk doomers in with people with moral and environmental concerns, or tossing around terms like Luddite until people point out exactly why they did what they did and the ugly parallels with the present day. This wouldn't have caused as much backlash if Patreon donors were told ahead of time that this is a direction they were looking at and why, or decided to try and fund it as a separate project but instead they ploughed ahead and spent donor money on it because consent is never asked for when it comes to AI usage.
Everything they cut that was found was essential to the functions of government will take a generation to fully recover, everything they cut that was essential to America's education system and ability to use soft power overseas will likely never be rebuilt as republicans will fight tooth and nail to prevent it because it benefits non white people as a side effect. They didn't care, and without people with guns camping out en masses around Washington and state capitals, nothing will ever be put in place to prevent a repeat next time America suffers another collective Fetterman and empowers a skeevy lunatic.
Let him try. Any precedents set will leave conservative outlets and the FCC buried up to their ears in lawsuits should they somehow succeed.
People have been using Temu as a jokey shorthand for crap for years now, to be quite honest the lowered expectation of quality benefits them as people make purchases knowing they're entering a lottery and don't complain as much when they lose.
Giving well paid government jobs to unqualified kids based on their skin colour and willingness to commit crimes for bigots is everything you idiots claim DEI is and does.
Why do they gotta go home? For writing op eds in student newspapers that are mildly critical of a genocide? For minor drug crimes decades ago while struggling with the aftermath of the trauma they suffered serving in the US military? For $80 worth of bad cheques a long, long time ago? They're rounding up anyone and everyone they can purely to fill quotas set by malevolent racists, that's it... and one innocent person arrested is one too many im a just society.
You know they keep getting unmasked as bigots and antisemites on social media right? Of course you do, that's a selling point for you.
And they've already started heading back apparently, because having a diminished, but still disproportionately high status in South Africa is preferable to being working poor in a nation where being white is nothing special unless you're exceptionally wealthy, despite the efforts of the right.
https://www.influencewatch.org/non-profit/techfreedom/ Alongside the Kochs, they take money from Google and Facebook to help lobby against antitrust efforts, and while the dollar amount isn't given, I find it hard to beliefe a K-street lobby group is taking in huge amounts of small dollar donations as part of a grassroots movement to make the internet better.
So you never read any of her NYT output then? The pissing and moaning on social media aimed at her then colleagues and the whiny press release she wrote when she quit to go be a paid mouthpiece for the right directly? Or are unaware of Columbia Unbecoming, the hitpiece 'documentary' she put out attacking professors who just so happened to be middle eastern, who were all eventually cleared? Amazing how such a long, leftist career involves her always coming down on the side of racism and the right.
Whoops, for whatever reason my post hadn't showed up so I posted the same sentiment twice.
A 'deranged leftist' who was known for being a good republican boy, someone you would be putting on placards were he the one shot. It is telling how quick the right wing media dropped the 'killed by a leftist' bit the second that people looked into his background beyond his 'having a non cisgender friend', it's almost as if the fact people on the right keep trying to kill people on the right is inconvenient for narrative building and the story of St. Charlie you are all trying to build is harmed by it almost as much as it is by the man's words and deeds when given their full context.
I have a natural distrust of any group funded by the same people funding the likes of Josh Hawley, and it's entirely possible for both sides to be bad or for people being on the right side of an issue for the wrong reason. It is important to know who people are and who else shares their bed before hopping in with them.
Having untrained white nationalists with a reputation for murdering people who inconvenience them at every airport will do great things for American tourism.
