  • Because One Paywall Sorta Worked Very Briefly Many Years Ago, Free Is A Joke

    Paywalls

I've had great success with a Paywall on www.poserworld.com, we've been charging for access to our 3D content for about 10 years. Of course what I have available are scarce goods (digital content) that cannot be obtained elsewhere.

I also tried a Paywall on Designer Today (graphic design magazine) and met with only a small success and eventually abandoned the charge for access to our premium content.

It all boils down to the fact that if what someone is charging access to can be found elsewhere for free, then a Paywall isn't going to be profitable. Until newspapers find something of substantial value to provide to paying customers then they are doomed to failure by charging for access.

  • Using A Big Company C&D For Marketing

Using their own "weapons" against them

I love it. Publicizing companies sleaziness is a great thing. If publicized enough they think twice the next time they pull such questionable practices. Good going!

  • CyberDefender Threatens Consumer Advocate With Defamation Claim

    CyberDefender's Attorneys

What's even funnier is the "attorneys" that CyberDenfender retained to "scare" me are primarily in the business of Horse Veterinary Malpractice (Horses) and Estate (Dead People) Estate litigation. Seriously....

Check it out for yourself. You just can't make up stuff like this! It's gets funnier every time I dig a little deeper.

The truth is the ultimate defense in libel and defamation lawsuits.....

Horse malpractice attorneys.. I wish I was making this up...

    CyberDefender

    Hi,
Thanks for posting this. I did video tape running their MyCleanPC and DoubleMySpeed software on two machines. One was a freshly installed Windows 7 machine (the software found nearly 1,000 errors on a machine that was up and running less than 24 hours), I then ran it on a fully patch but rarely used XP system that never had any problems (my video editing machine) and the software found over 3,000 errors. Problem is it only scans the registry but the TV clericals claim it removes email viruses and other stuff, but just scnning the registry for errors doesn't find email viruses or other no registry items.

Anyway I have the videos put up in case they try something stupid like a SLAPP, Trade Libel or defamation suit (since it is a company I think their only legal route is trade libel). Of course I have the videos and have no problem demonstrating it in court to a judge and jury. They also trap consumers after the scan and send them to a page to buy access to the programs "cleaning" abilities, they try to up sell you for over $90.00 and trap you from closing the browser windows if you try to leave. You have to kill the browser process in task manager to escape the site.

  • Hollywood Seeks To Kill Off 3D Golden Goose With Much Higher Prices

    Movie Prices

Another reason for me to stop going to the movies all together and just wait till the movie comes out on DVD, Netflix or PPV. The industry thinks by raising prices they will have a much higher profit margin. What will happen, I believe, is that less consumers will go to the movies and their profit margin will stay where it is currently or shrink a good bit. Let them shoot themselves in the foot, eventually movie prices will get so cheap, as they'll have to compete with the likes of Netflix to get warm bodies into theaters.

  • Too Little Too Late: Universal Music Finally Realizes That Maybe CDs Were Too Expensive

    CD Prices

I still prefer Music CD's over MP3's. CD's are more durable than digital formats. Less worry about hard drives failing. Call me backwards, but then again that's me...

  • FTC Finally Forces FreeCreditReport.com To Be Honest In Its Advertising

    It's About Time

I am so sick of seeing those Free Credit Report commercials, the guy can't even freaking sing. Worse is they claim "free" when it's not. They should have been shut down or forced to be honest about it years ago.

    Google News Traffic

I for one made sure that the sites we post news on got included in Google News, the way I see it all web traffic is good traffic (well 99% of it). Let the big boys cry and pout and pull out, it means more free traffic for me. I am more than happy to have it.

  • Amazon Backs Down On Demanding Publisher Use Only Its Own Print-On-Demand Solution

    Amazon's print on demand

I use Amazon's Createspace POD. It's a great platform, as a small publisher we've realized a tremendous savings and wider reach (even beyond Amazon) using their services.

I can have a book uploaded and within generally a week have it available in print. For use the print quality (both interiors and covers) have been excellent.
