Adding The Thousand Words Back To The Picture

from the speak-up dept

Apparently, even if a picture is worth a thousand words (or, as an old professor of mine used to say, “a digital picture is worth 1,024 words”), sometimes people need to put the words back with the picture to make it complete. Researchers at HP realized that people showing photo albums to friends and family tend to give a lot of the details and context for the photo – and that somehow including that info with the photo would probably be nice. So, they’ve rigged up a fancy speech recognition system that can record and transcribe what people are saying as a digital photo album is being shown and append the text to the photo. It also makes the content searchable, so you can more easily find photos about a certain topic in your album.
