News That Glows

from the it's-all-part-of-the-extra-sensory-environment dept

The NY Times is writing about a product that probably would have been a huge hit during the boom times, but seems to have a limited market these days. It’s an “ambient orb” that glows different colors depending on how well the stock market is doing. The idea is that it gives a quick indication for people so they don’t need to constantly check a stock website. Of course, if the information is that important to someone, they’re probably checking the web constantly anyway. There are certainly uses for other such “ambient” alerts, but as a view of the overall stock market, it seems fairly useless.
