Conspicuous consumption never died. You can now buy a gold and diamond encrusted mobile phone for only about $60,000. A jeweler in Austria has been refitting various mobile phones with gold and diamonds for those who believe that throwing money away on disgustingly gaudy objects is a sport. He’s now working on a gold and diamond encrusted Palm as well. It will have an 18-carat faceplate and use 1200 diamonds. Such a device will only cost you $75,000-$80,000. Sign me up.
