Funniest/Most Insightful Comments Of The Week At Techdirt
from the so-you-say dept
This week, our first place winner on the insightful side is That Anonymous Coward with a comment about the obvious connection between Tesla and ExTwitter that raises some questions about the judge in the Media Matters laswsuit:
What stock was it Elmo was going to have to sell to keep X running again??
In second place, it’s an anonymous comment from that same post:
Heck, if we won’t hold Clarence Thomas accountable for accepting slightly obscured bribes, why should we hold O’Connor accountable for clearly favoring Elon. “He who has the gold makes the rules.”
For editor’s choice on the insightful side, we start out with an anonymous comment about the Las Vegas Police Union being afraid of facial recognition tech:
If the cops dont want something used on them, that should automatically mean that cops legally cant use it either.
Next, it’s That One Guy with a comment about the court striking down California’s Age Appropriate Design Code:
Such a shame, they got judges that aren’t idiots and/or corrupt…
California: We’re not telling them to take down any specific speech, we’re just telling them that if they don’t take down speech we don’t like we’ll punish them for it, totally different!
Court: Yeah no.
Over on the funny side, our first place winner is an anonymous response to the description of Project 2025 as “a right-wing masturbatory fantasy”:
Conservatives better not read it, then, or they will get excessive hair growth on their hands.
In second place, it’s MrWilson with a comment about Tennessee’s new quasi-book-ban law:
H.B. 843 clarifies that books containing “nudity, or descriptions or depictions of sexual excitement,
So no classical art history.
sexual conduct,
No sex ed.
excess violence,
No wars or assassinations.
or sadomasochistic abuse”
And no studying the process by which laws are passed in the Tennessee state legislature.
For editor’s choice on the funny side, we start out with an anonymous reply to someone who made a joke under the name Abraham Lincoln:
Hey, I remember your famous quote, something about “believing everything you read on the Internet”.
Thanks! You are one of the presidents I can trust!
Finally, it’s an anonymous comment about ExTwitter’s ongoing freefall:
He tried charging for blue checks, firing employees, not paying severance, not paying lawyers, not paying the previous CEO, not paying rent, ending remote work, disconnecting random servers, returning previously banned accounts, suing critics, launching an LLM, what else could one man possibly do to make a company profitable?
That’s all for this week, folks!

I GOT ONE I GOT ONE!
Re:
You get a lot of ones in my book. There’s a fist full of long-term, consistent, high-quality commenters here, and you’re one of them.
Re: Re:
I’ve not seen much evidence of that recently.
Re:
All hail That Anonymous Coward!
All hail! All hail!
"what else could one man possibly do to make a company profitable?"
S====, himself.
Nope cant say that word in this internet, or it will get traced, again.
I’d go one step further and just ban the educational system in Tennessee. Having to learn anything from conservative fucks is, in itself, a ritual of sadomasochism.
Re:
To be fair, going to a Christian college in Tennessee when I was young was what made me realize that they were intellectually compromised, so you couldn’t trust anything they said. Most of my friends who went there aren’t Christians anymore either.
It’s like the old joke – “How do you make someone an atheist? Have them read the bible.”
Unfortunately, some people will continue to be indoctrinated, but that seems to be a smaller and smaller portion of the population as time goes on.

Re: Re:
Shut up, communist.
Re: Re: Re:
I’m not a communist, but I’ll play one for this bit.
Boo! I’m so scary! Fluoridating your water. Infiltrating your state department. Trying to give you tax-funded health care like many other developed countries with higher quality of life. It’s a goddam nightmare I tell you!

Re: Re: Re:2
Shut up, atheist scum.
Re: Re: Re:3
Ooh, someone who doesn’t believe in an imaginary friend! That’s also scary. You’re just scared of everything.
The irony of course is that you’re a hateful person who likely violates many of the tenets of your god, so it’s even worse for you. Either you’re wasting your life thinking there’s an afterlife or there is one, but you’re probably going to hell. Even Pascal wouldn’t make that wager.

Re: Re:
Anyone who believes in an imaginary sky friend needs to be brought to the back of the barn to meet a 2nd Amendment activist, and have nature sort them out.
Re: Re: Re:
Nope. This extremist cosplay bullshit doesn’t pass the sniff test. Believing in a deity doesn’t warrant a death sentence. Stop playing the bloodthirsty atheist. You’re not fooling anyone.
Re: Re: Re:2
“Bloodthirsty atheist” isn’t a thing dumbass. You don’t seem to mind the huge amounts of blood spilled over your claimed belief system, not that you’re doing shutting to convince anyone you actually believe.
Re: Re: Re:
Funny observation.
Most people who were antitheist went on to become diehard Trumpers, ie, white supremacists.
So, in some cases, the antitheist is ALSO the 2nd Amendment “activist”.
So, you gonna get a powdered wig and get a cannon, musket and triangular bayonet just as the forefathers intended, or are you going to be Putin’s willing fuckboy?
Re: Re:
Apparently, Christian colleges also fail to teach their students what communism actually means.
Re: Re: Re: love it
I love teaching those Christian Capitalists.
If you dont know the word, LOOK IT UP.
Dont listen to others Explain the meaning.
