Another Regional Carrier Up For Grabs?
With the country’s biggest carriers pretty much consolidating as much as they can, the M&A action for operators has been with smaller, regional carriers. Suncom, which operates a GSM network with almost 1 million subscribers in the Carolinas, Puerto Rico and parts of Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee, says it’s missed its earnings and has hired an advisor to “evaluate its options for improving its financial condition”. That sounds an awful lot like a way of announcing it’s up for sale — sparking rumors that T-Mobile would be interested, given Suncom’s GSM network and T-Mobile saying a few months ago it was looking to beef up by buying regional carriers.
