The Post Holiday Online Selling Of Useless Gifts Boom

When talking about holiday-inspired e-commerce increases, most people think of the jump in sales from late November into mid-December as everyone shops online for presents. However, there’s also the post-holiday online auction boom… when everyone jumps online to get rid of the crap they got that they hate. Apparently Yahoo auctions saw a 19% bump the week after Christmas, and various eBay drop-off sellers also saw a lot more traffic. Lots of people (of course) used the “re-gifting” aspect of their post-holiday blues as part of the sales pitch, including a few who offered mystery packages still wrapped up (sometimes given by people from whom they would prefer not to receive gifts).
