Sony Ericsson's Music Phone In Short Supply
The widespread disappointment following yesterday’s launch of the iTunes phone has helped cast a pall on mobile music. But despite the iTunes phone’s decidedly cold reception and reports saying people don’t want multifunction phones, Sony Ericsson says that it can’t keep up with demand for the first phone in its Walkman line of music-centric devices. The same thing happened last summer to Nokia with its 6230 model, another music phone. Of course, product shortages can be caused by a number of factors that have more to do with operational and planning problems than torrid sales, and it’s a little early to label the ROKR a failure. But it sure looks like there’s a market for music phones that don’t suck.
