Geico, Google Settle — Leave The Mess To The Next Lawsuit

from the solves-nothing dept

Well, this isn’t good. Last month, a judge refused to even answer the question of whether or not Google was actually liable for ads on their website (something that legal experts have weighed in on, suggesting there’s no liability). Instead, the judge told the two parties to settle the dispute. This is a very odd decision. The judge basically said “Google may not have any liability, but they should still settle.” So, what happens? Google and Geico settle, without giving any of the details. This just opens the door for every other advertiser to file their lawsuits to get a “settlement” out of Google, even though it’s unlikely that Google is actually liable.
