Quantum Cryptography: If You Look At It, Does It Matter?
from the wave-or-a-particle? dept
Stories about quantum computing and quantum cryptography are always fun to read — even if it’s pretty clear the technology is still a long way off. Forbes is now running a piece discussing the basics of quantum cryptography and how it seems to be making some advancements (slowly, slowly…), but makes the very good point at the end (thanks to Bruce Schneier) that it’s usually not the crypto that’s the weakest link in security. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea to work out new, more advanced crypto systems, but it’s important to remember that technology alone is never going to make a system “hacker proof,” as the title of the article implies.
