Wayport Goes International
Since Wayport has been one of the only hotspot providers to recognize that they needed to change their business model to be relevant in the hotspot world (recognizing that trying to charge a usage fee was never going to work), it’s interesting to see how they expand over time. Their latest move is to get off the North American continent by buying a large hotspot provider in Europe and the Middle East, NetPoint. Wayport only has a token presence outside the US, so they’re clearly looking at overseas expansion opportunities. Of course, prices in Europe still need to come way down, but perhaps Wayport’s more innovative business model can help push that process forward.
