Good Communication Underground, Or A Terrorist Threat?

This one seems a bit odd. While there have been plenty of stories about cellular repeaters being placed in subway systems in places like NYC, apparently folks in London are worried that such systems will be misused in a terrorist attack. Since there have been a few cases of cell phone detonated bombs, the idea is that by extending the range of service into the London Underground, it makes it easier to carry out such an attack. Of course, you could make the same claim for expanding cellular service anywhere. If terrorists are going to attack, they’re going to find a way to attack. It seems unlikely that by expanding cellular service underground, suddenly new terrorists are going to come out of the woodwork. That doesn’t mean security precautions shouldn’t be put in place, but it seems a bit extreme to ban the entire system on the possibility of an attack.
