HSDPA Delay

While a bunch of vendors have been pushing HSDPA equipment in the last few weeks, it’s beginning to sound like the technology may still need a bit more time in the oven. Unstrung is reporting that DoCoMo has pushed off their HSDPA deployment by a year. Considering the strong EV-DO competition they’re facing, and the amount of time DoCoMo has been working on HSDPA, this suggests that the technology might not be all it’s been cracked up to be. Over at TheFeature, I wonder if this also means other HSDPA deployments will be delayed as well. That could be bad news for Cingular, who’s banking on launching HSDPA by the end of next year to leapfrog both Verizon Wireless and Sprint, who will be quite far along with EV-DO by then.
