Verizon Admits It Plans To Sell Fiber Access To Other ISPs

from the yes,-but-how-much... dept

While Verizon has been threatened to withhold fiber if the FCC forced them to share lines, that doesn’t mean they’re against selling those lines. Verizon has admitted (via Broadband Reports) that they’re in discussions with various ISPs about offering them access to the lines. The article makes it sound like no one expected this to happen — but that’s not true. A lot of people expected them to have this option, but to price it at ridiculous rates that had little to do with the actual costs. The problem was never that Verizon didn’t want to sell access to fiber lines — just that they didn’t want the government setting the price.
