Australian ISPs Try To Filter In Some Reality To Politicians

from the nice-try,-but-no... dept

Some Australian politicians have been pushing to get ISPs to filter porn for a while somehow believing that this “gets to the source” of the problem, when, in fact, that’s exactly what it doesn’t do. Hoping to clue in some of these politicians, Australian ISPs have tried to point out how ridiculous it is to think that filtering is the solution. Not only do the filters not work (giving both false positives and false negatives) but they “provide a false sense of security to parents.” Oh yeah, on top of not actually doing the job and making some situations worse, they’re also costly. No wonder politicians like the idea.
